Situation
Typing tutors for the classroom are either dated or US-centric: QWERTY first, English practice texts and student accounts in a cloud outside Europe. Swiss schools are missing exactly the combination that matters — a Swiss keyboard layout with umlauts and special characters, data held domestically, and a progress overview for the teacher.
Objective
A curriculum that keeps children engaged, and class administration that is ready to go in ten minutes. Practising must never stutter on weak school Wi-Fi, and as little data as possible should be collected from the children — no email addresses, no real names required.
Execution
A step-by-step curriculum from home row to fluent touch typing, on the Swiss QWERTZ and German layouts. The typing engine runs locally in the browser and buffers sessions until the connection returns; only aggregates reach the server, never individual keystrokes. Progress is measured in keystrokes per minute, accuracy, errors per finger and a heatmap across the keyboard. Levels, badges, streaks, daily missions and typing games turn practice into play — and finishing the course prints a certificate.
For schools
The teacher opens a class and writes a join code on the blackboard — that is all it takes. The dashboard shows lessons, speed, accuracy and weak fingers per child, plus assignments across a lesson range, a shared class challenge and a CSV export. Developed and hosted in Switzerland; the Mac and iPad apps are in progress.
